Top Tips For Recruitment

Recruiting staff that really fit the bill is a skill in itself which is why at HRM we utilise our years of experience to help you find the right people that are productive and loyal. However we have put together some tips and advice to help with your overall recruitment strategy to help you attract and retain the best staff.

First of all ask yourself some important questions:

  • Do you really know what you’re looking for in this new employee?
  • Does the job description reflect your needs?
  • Should this be a permanent, full-time position or should you hire a contractor?
  • Do you have the right people on your interview team?
  • Have you thought carefully about the questions you’ll ask the candidates?

Top Tips

  • Make sure you have some basic policies and procedures in place.
  • Create a job description
  • Verbal reference check applicants – you will find out more this about your potential employee.
  •
  • Get it right from day one, spend time with them, take them through the induction process on day one to get a good introduction of the business, the people their job and your expectations
  • Safety first, don’t rush through it, explain things clearly.
  • Train your staff, training is important especially in the way of young workers who can have little in the way of work related skills and experience
  • Communications and feedback, talk to your staff and keep communication open, build relationships and loyalty, improve motivation and identify and solve potential problems together before they arise.
  • Keep motivation high, communication flowing and give positive and constructive feedback.
  •
  • Don’t ignore problems, deal with problems early on rather than let it slide, and eventually escalate into a bigger problem
  • Don’t dismiss unfairly, you must make sure that you have followed a fair process and have a just reason for putting someone off.
